Book Review: Donna Tartt’s The Secret History

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

For years, people have been shocked to learn that I had not yet read The Secret History. For years, people have been telling me to read it. For years, I have ignored them due to my very annoying NO ONE TELLS ME WHAT TO DO personality. Well, ladies and germs, I’ve finally read it and guess what? I loved it. Whodathunkit (beside as all those people who love me repeatedly telling me so)?

The Secret History is gripping and compelling. A group of college students so obsessed with Ancient Greek and the classics that they perform a Dionysian rite in the woods to complicated consequences. It has everything: weird college kids, weird college professors, weird rich people, weird fake rich people, weird townspeople, and, of course, disaster. At times I even thought it was funny, though when seeking validation on that from the people who told me to read it I got kind of a lot of “uhhs” but isn’t part of the beauty of reading what each individual person brings to it? (Or perhaps I’m mentally ill.)

Either way, highly recommend this kind of old book!
